For most people, building a home means weekend site visits, popping by to check progress, and watching each milestone unfold in real life.
For Rose and Brodie, it looked a little different.
The first-home buyers were living in Canberra when they decided to build their dream home in Eglinton. With their dog Koda along for the ride, they took on a challenge many people would find pretty intimidating: building an entire home from the other side of the country.
“We were definitely nervous. It was such an unknown. Neither of us had built or even bought before, so it was a completely new journey for us.”
But what could have felt overwhelming quickly turned into something exciting.
From their first chat with New Homes Consultant Ben, through to prestart with Robyn and construction with Site Supervisor Laurence, Rose and Brodie felt supported every step of the way.
“It felt like they really wanted to work with us and take what we wanted and help us improve and build on it, rather than just forcing it upon us.”
When you’re building from 3,700km away, communication becomes everything. Thankfully, that was never an issue.
“The communication from start to finish was great. The team was very transparent with everything and it just felt like such a smooth process.”
While they couldn’t drop into site whenever they felt like it, regular updates and access to their personalised building portal meant they never felt out of the loop.
“The portal was such an awesome feature. Being able to see photos, daily and weekly updates, and having that single source of truth for everything was amazing, especially whilst being interstate.”
From slab down in July 2024 to handover in May 2025, they watched their home come to life through photos, updates and conversations.
In fact, they never saw their block or their home in person until their Practical Completion Inspection.
Then came the moment they’d been waiting for.
They packed up their lives in Canberra, loaded Koda into the back seat, and made the cross-country drive to Western Australia to start their next chapter.
Just a week after moving in, it still hadn’t quite sunk in.
“It’s surreal. From designing the house, to the mock-ups, to prestart, to finally handover and seeing everything come to life so beautifully. It’s such a surreal pinch-me moment.”
Today, Rose, Brodie and Koda are settling into life in Eglinton, enjoying a home they first dreamed about from afar and reflecting on a building journey that exceeded every expectation.
And for anyone sitting on the fence about building?
Rose and Brodie have a simple message:
“Don’t be scared. Just do it. There’ll never be a perfect time. Just go for it.”
