Turnkey Houses: What Makes A Move-In Ready Home?

Curious about turnkey homes? Here’s everything you need to know.

If you’re at the research stage of your “homeowner, me?” journey, you’ve probably come across the term ‘turnkey house’ and wondered—what fresh building gibberish is this? They’re just making stuff up now, no?

… No. Sorry.

A turnkey house is different to your standard house and land package. Read on to find out how, and why it might be the one for you.

So, what’s a turnkey home?

A whole lot of people mistakenly think their new home is going to be move-in ready the day they get the keys. Not so much.

Standard house and land packages often lack some pretty essential elements, like carpets, blinds, and even wall paint.

If you’re building your first home, a turnkey house package should include all the finishing touches the home needs, so you can move right in when you turn the key come handover day. No need to call in extra trades, no need to put on your overalls and grab a paintbrush… Just call the movers (aka, that too-kind mate who offered their muscle) and start unpacking.

Why go turnkey?

1. It’s the no worries option.

It really doesn’t get any easier than this. Because turnkey house packages include everything, you don’t have to think about a thing. No, “Honey, we forgot to select our window coverings! The neighbours can see it alllll!” In short, there’ll be no “oh s**t” moments.

All you have to worry about is your furniture and how much budget you have left over to spend at Kmart, Freedom and Adairs—the fun stuff.

2. It will save you time.

Because your home will be move-in ready at the handover date, there’s a lot less moving parts and shifting timelines to contend with to get you in the home.

Just ask your builder (that’s us ????) what the estimated completion date is – or better yet, find it in your personalised portal – and book your mover. And because you’re only communicating with your builder (not project managing multiple contractors for you), every part of the build is streamlined, fuss-free, and efficient.

Not only do you get in your home sooner, but you save your precious time, brain space, and sanity throughout.

3. It will save you money.

Because there are no unexpected surprises.

Necessities like flooring, painting and blinds aren’t included in most standard house and land packages, meaning you’re often left to find an extra $10k+ you hadn’t accounted for. Yikes.

Turnkey homes include all these things and more, so the price you get at the start is the one you pay at the end. Simple. No panicked calls to the bank for you.

What do you think? Is the convenience and cost-effectiveness of a turnkey house for you?

Less worries. Less time wasted. Less money lost to extra costs. It’s no surprise turnkey houses have become a popular option for first-home buyers. And honestly, we love them too.

That’s why all our house and land packages can be upgraded to a turnkey package. Yep, all of them! The difference between our standard and turnkey packages varies but is generally about $10-$15k. Just let your La Vida New Homes Consultant know you’re interested in this option, and they’ll sort the rest. Too easy.

And, if there are any other extras you’d like us to price up, above and beyond the turn-key basics, ask. We can also cost extra fencing, side gates, letterboxes, dishwashers, clotheslines… You name it.
